Tuesday 14 June
The Bionic Ear Show comes to Gairloch!

The Deafness Research UK Bionic Ear Show is an interactive show revealing how the ear works and how it helps us to hear sound.  It also shows you what you can do to protect your hearing. By looking at whether we can fix or replace each part of the hearing system, the show also explains what scientists are doing to develop new technologies and medical treatments for deafness, and the huge potential that exists to find cures. During the show, the presenter builds the world's largest ear (22 feet long!) on stage and encourages the audience to take part along the journey of the hearing process.

The show will be in Gairloch on Tuesday 14th June, but if you would like the show to visit your school during science week too - please email Liz Barron ASAP

Thursday 16 June
Inverness Royal Academy and Buckie High School to host Lab in a Lorry!

What is Lab in a Lorry?
Lab in a Lorry is an interactive mobile laboratory which gives young people (11-14 year olds) the opportunity to explore science through open-ended experiments. Volunteers guide the students through the experiments (oil and viscous liquids, sound and resonance, light scattering and colours, climate change and energy sources, optoelectronics) and makes sure everyone gets to be involved through hands on experience. Pupils will also get the chance to meet local STEM Ambassadors and find out more about careers in the STEM subjects. A short film of the lorry in action can be viewed by clicking here and Lab in a Lorry's itinerary for June can be found here.

Friday 17 June
Monster Science Day for Schools at Midmills

A bumper day of hands-on activities. Find out what is really going on inside your body, why everything that crawls isn't necessarily creepy, that rocket science isn't as tough as they make it out to be, and much more!  This will be a fun and exciting day, which will really bring science to life.  If your school would like to take part, please email Liz Barron asap!
