Richard Dawkins: "Aubrey Manning is my role model"

Richard Dawkins, who gave such a fascinating talk at our Fundraising event a few weeks ago, is urging anyone interested in science to seize the opportunity to hear Aubrey Manning speak at Monsterfest next Tuesday evening:

"Aubrey Manning's engaging personality (he is one of those rare individuals, like David Attenborough, whom literally everybody likes) won the hearts of all who saw his wonderful television series, Earth Story. But his greater distinction is in the field of Animal Behaviour. That was also my field when I began my career as a scientist, and I have looked up to him as a role model all my professional life. He is a truly brilliant lecturer, not least because his magnetic personal charm comes across in every word he utters. He is witty, deeply knowledgeable, and a champion explainer of fascinating science. If you miss his lecture at Monsterfest, you'll be missing a treat."

You can hear Aubrey speaking on 'The Animals and Ourselves' next Tuesday evening, 14 June, 7pm, at the Drumossie Hotel.

Tickets cost £5 and can be booked via TheBooth (24hr) or by calling 01463 273000 (office hours). For fuller details about the event please click here.

This feed was drawn from the Inverness Monster Science Festival website

Climate Change event added to public events programme

Whatever your views on climate change, no one can doubt that it is one of the hot topics (pun intended!) in science at the moment. But how well do we, the general public, really understand the science of climate and how climatologists arrive at their conclusions?

This event, newly added to the Inverness Monster Science Festival programme, will give the non-scientists among us an introduction to climatology and its methods, so that we can better understand the climate change-related stories in the news.

Our speaker will be Professor John McClatchey of the Environmental Research Institute (ERI). ERI is part of North Highland College which, in turn, is part of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

See our Public Events page for full details.

This feed was drawn from the Inverness Monster Science Festival website
